Native to MI. Mature Height: 20-40’. Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Does well in alkaline soils as well as poorly drained wetlands, bogs and forested ravines. Seedlings are heavily browsed by white-tailed deer; cedar stands are important winter cover and food for wildlife.

Uses: Lumber, including posts, shingles, and cabin logs; sometimes planted and used as a hedge; historically used by Native Americans and French settlers to treat scurvy; sap is high in Vitamin C
