American Elm - (Ulmus americana)

Native to MI. Mature Height: 60-80’. Grows best in full sun in average, medium moisture, well-drained, rich moist loams. Adapts to both wet and dry sites. Populations have been decimated by Dutch elm disease which is spread by elm bark beetles and root grafts. Avoid planting in areas with existing infected trees and monitor for signs of illness as the trees age. Young trees seem to be immune to the disease.
