Groundwater Stewardship Program Mission
Mission: To Provide information and assessment tools for pesticide and nitrogen fertilizer users which help them identify risks to groundwtaer associated with their pesticide and nitrogen fertilizer use practices and to coordinate local, state, and federal resources to help individuals reduce those risks.
The Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program is designed to be:

locally driven
address local concerns of individuals
maintain a focus on the financial and technical constraints which drive real-world decisions
The Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program is relatively narrow in focus addressing only risks to groundwater associated with pesticides and nitrogen fertilizer use. However, it has a wide scope and addresses the many uses of these materials, including agricultural, turf grass, Christmas Tree Nurseries, and household uses.

Water Screening for Nitrates
In cooperation with the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA), Michigan State University and the Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program (MGSP) the Mason-Lake Conservation District offered free water screening again this year. Mason and Lake County Residents brought in 144 of their water samples to be tested for nitrates and triazines July 21st. They should get their results around the end of August. If you missed out on the test but are concerned about your water quality call the Conservation District to schedule a home a syst.
